Obituary of Theodorus "Ted" Reinders
It is with deep sadness, the family announces the death of Theodorus “Ted” Franciscus Maria Reinders, who passed away at the Turnbull Nursing Home on April 5, 2017 following a period of ailing health. Ted, husband of Geraldine (Cotter) Reinders of 55 years was born in Hillegersberg, Netherlands, to the late Theodorus and Euphemia Reinders. As a young boy, he lived through World War II in the vicinity of where the Canadian soldiers landed. He remembered the soldiers showering food from their aircrafts. At the age of 18, Ted was the first of three brothers to immigrate to Canada. He was a humble man who dedicated countless hours to helping others. He volunteered at food banks, Ridgewood, Knights of Columbus 8094 and in several capacities at St. Rose of Lima Parish. Ted enjoyed gardening, swimming, time with family and friends, and trips to Sussex. He was a life-long member of the Aquatic Centre. For the past year, Ted has resided at the Turnbull Nursing Home where the care has been exemplary. The family would like to thank the staff for their kindness and compassion. Special thanks to Dr. Brian Garland, the long-time doctor and a devoted caregiver, Ethel Smith. Besides his wife, Geraldine, Ted is survived by one son, Dr. Francis Xavier Reinders (Dr. Sabrina) of Kitchener, ON; one daughter, Mona Geraldine Reinders of Saint John, NB. Mona has always had a very special relationship with her Dad. They enjoyed many things together...his appreciation of music, flowers, and fitness. She will truly miss him, but will carry his kind, loving spirit in her heart. Three grandchildren; Stephanie, Alexander, and Richard; siblings; Han of Netherlands, Lewis of North Vancouver, BC and Richard of Niagara Falls, ON, as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sibling André of Netherlands, sister-in-law, Beth (Gorrie) Reinders of Toronto, ON; parents-in-law, Walter and Mary Cotter of Sussex, NB; two brothers-in-law, Edward Cotter of Sussex, NB and John Cotter of Rothesay, NB. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John (634-1701). Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 7:00pm – 9:00pm at Castle Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Rose of Lima Church on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 12:00 noon. Donations in Ted’s memory can be made to Romero House, NB Mind Care, Turnbull Nursing Home or the charity of one’s choice. Online condolences can be made at www.castlefh.com
