Obituary of Robert McCollum
McCollum, Robert Elliott passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Bobby’s Hospice on June 18, 2012. Born on June 6, 1922 he was son of the late Robert and Muriel (Kelter) McCollum. Robert was employed by the Canadian Coast Guard as a supply officer for 42 years. He served in the Carleton York Regiment from 1939-1941. In 1941 he joined the IV Princess Louise Dragoon Guards as a motorcycle dispatcher from 1939-1945. Robert is survived by his wife, Margaret (O’Brien); two sons, Brian and his wife, Carolyn, of Nerepis, Lee and his wife, Elaine ,of Saint John; two brothers, Edgar and his wife, Leah, of Dauphin, MB, James and his wife, Hilda, of Saint John; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Clarence; son, Robert Elliott III. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, “Fallsview Chapel”, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John West, (634-1701) visitation will take place on Friday, June 22, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9p.m. followed by a Legion Service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 11a.m. from Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Donations, in memory of Robert , may be made to Bobby’s Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.
