Obituary of Vernon Joseph Dempsey
Vernon Dempsey passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 13, 2016 at Ridgewood Veterans Wing. Born August 17, 1924 he was the son of the late Peter & Bernadette (Oaks) Dempsey. Vernon loved to walk the Irving Nature Park and won the Top Walker Award. He has walked the equivalent of the mileage from Saint John to Port Hawkesbury, NS. Vernon was an avid hunter and loved to socialize at Lancaster Mall. Vernon will be sadly missed by sons Vernon (Colleen) Dempsey of Sussex, NB, Peter (Roxanne) Dempsey of Saint John, NB; daughters Susan (Joe) McGinnis and Lorie Ralston (Rick Mott) both of Saint John, NB; sister Carmel Shea of Saint John, NB; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents Vernon was predeceased by his wife Vivian; sisters Gladys, Eunice, Joyce, Beatrice, Catherine, Rita, Francis, Geraldine; brothers Raymond, Walter and Delbert. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John (634-1701). Visitation will be held on Sunday January 17, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm & 6:00 - 8:00 pm. A Legion Tribute Service will be held Sunday at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Castle Funeral Home Chapel on Monday January 18, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Extension. Donations in Vernon’s memory can be made to Ridgewood Veterans Hospital Fund.
