Obituary of Barbara Coombs

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of a long time Westside resident, Barbara Gertrude Coombs, who passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on April 2, 2017. Barbara was born in Saint John on January 4, 1929 and was predeceased by her husband, Cecil A. “Duke” Coombs, father George Kearney, Mother Zeita (Ryan), step-father Karl Johan Georgeson, sisters Constance Evans (Ronald) and Zeita Woods (Robert), brothers Bernard and Karl Jr. Georgeson, and son William Anthony “Tony” Coombs.Barbara is survived by her son Albert (Barbara), daughter in law Norma, grandchildren Timothy (Emily McEwan), Warren (Robin Clouston), Kristen (Conan Murphy) and Adrienne, great grandchildren Oliver and Robert Murphy, and many nieces and nephews. Barbara was a very private and generous person who valued and appreciated her close relationships and supported a variety of charities around the world. Locally, she supported and participated in the Terry Fox Run for 22 years and was an avid parishioner at Our Lady of Assumption Church. She valued her faith and this shaped her life. In the words of her dear friend, “If Barb can’t get into heaven there’s no hope for the rest of us!”Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John (634-1701). A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church (360 Dufferin Row) on Thursday April 6, 2017 at 12:00 noon. A reception will follow at Fallsview Reception Center all are welcome. A private interment will take place at a later time. Donations in Barbara’s memory can be made to Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, the Terry Fox Foundation or the charity of one’s choice.
