I was very saddened to read of Miss Doone's passing. As a volunteer, I had occasion to go to her home now and again, and I loved visiting with her.Her stories of past events in her life were so interesting and, at times funny. What beatiful handwork.A very beautiful lady who I am sure you will miss always.Sincerest condolences,Annetta Gardner

Dear Margaret Ann, Betty and family, My deepest sympathy in the loss of "Aunt Shirley". Many times I spent the night at her house during high school in the mid 1980's to attend a choir or musical production at Saint John High School. Being from the country, I could always count on Aunt Shirley for a place to stay in the city. She was so accommodating and appeared to enjoy my company. We would stay up to the wee hours chatting and listening to her stories of her younger years. I enjoyed viewing her needle point or crocheting projects. Fond memories... Prayers and blessings, Sarah Jelinek (Mawhinney)

I could write a dozen stories of the wonderful times spent with Miss Doone. Quite soon after moving next door to her in 1989, she soon became a regular guest at our dinner table. Miss Doone would say so modestly "you didn't have to do that, but I'm awfully glad you did!". My children were grateful recipients of her skilled knitting, and oftentimes I would ask her to sew my projects up as I was such an amateur. She spoke often and lovingly of her family, and really looked forward to visits from her sisters. Her love and commitment to our Lord was as strong as anyone could imagine. Miss Doone had long ago asked me to wallpaper her hallway. By the time the project was done, she had both Barry and I papering the hallways, bathroom, living room, and helping out with new drapery. She had hooked us, and we were so happy to help. Shirley was an independent woman, well ahead of her time. My condolences to her family. Our prayers are with you, and we are honoured to be able to say Miss Doone was our friend.
