Obituary of Joseph Gallant

It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph E. Gallant of Milford announces his passing at Bobby’s Hope House on January 5, 2011 after a valiant battle with cancer. Joe was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was a very caring and compassionate man to his family and friends. Born in Milford on June 4, 1926 he was the son of Alice (Murphy) Coholan and Amedie Gallant. He was a veteran of Word War II, serving with the Pictou Highlanders. Joe was a very skilled craftsman and left many pieces of his work to family and friends. He worked for many years with Acme Construction and in later years as Head of Maintenance at the William F. Roberts Hospital School until his retirement. During his retirement years he enjoyed many bus trips with friends, his home in Milford, walking his dog Jessie and tending to his lawns and many flower gardens. Joe was a lifelong parishioner of St. Rose Parish. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Theresa (McBride) Gallant, his daughter Karen Gallant, brother Donald Coholan (Juliette), sister Mary McDonald of Fredericton, sister-in-law Anne McBride of Bedford, N.S., brother-in-law Bruce Holder, daughter-in-law Janet Gallant and her girls Charlotte and Christine, special granddaughter Kate Gallant and her mother Christine McKinnon, special grandson Alex Gallant, many nieces and nephews and his faithful dog, Jessie. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his dear son, Terry, in 2004. Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701) with visiting on Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A tribute to a Veteran service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 8, 2011 from Saint Rose of Lima Catholic church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in Joe’s memory could be made to Extra Mural, the Animal Rescue League, Hospice Greater Saint John, PRO Kids or a charity of the donor’s choice.
