Obituary of Ruth Hanora Shephard

 

It is with broken hearts the family of Ruth Hanora Shephard, widow of the late Ralph E. Shephard wish to announce her passing on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Bobby’s Hospice with her family by her side. Born in Saint John, N.B. in 1923, Ruth was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Catherine (Cogswell) Young.

Ruth is survived by her son, Eric (Susan) Shephard, of Saint John, sisters, Vivian Murray, of Dipper Harbor, and Corine McCutcheon, of Fredericton, 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Benjamin and Catherine Young, her beloved husband, Ralph Edward Shephard, 2 sons, Paul Shephard and Richard Shephard, 2 daughters, Catherine Shephard, and Ellen Hooper, brothers, John English, Wilfred English, sisters, Ina Janes, Bessie Thompson, Elsie Meehan, Clara Kyle, Edith English, Cora Kyle.

Ruth was a member Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #2, Saint John, holding offices of President, Vice-president, Secretary and Sergeant at Arms. Loved playing darts in the Legions dart league!

Ruth loved going for long drives with her best friend Jeanie White. She always loved having family come for visits, who would laughed at her funny stories and jokes!

Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, N.B. (634 1701) have been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. A memorial service will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Castle “Fallsview” Chapel.Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Due to Covid-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings by the Government of New Brunswick, all of those, 12 and over, attending the Visitation and Memorial Service will be required to show proof of vaccination and a piece of government issued ID, or proof of medical exemption.
