Obituary of Isabel Margaret Finley
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Isabel Margaret (Sutton) Finley. Isabel passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with the love of her life Ken Finley at her side. Isabel was born on December 12, 1932, in Saint John, NB to the late Byrne and Greta (Logan) Sutton.
Isabel is survived by her partner of 72 years, and husband of 64 years Kenneth Finley, son Robert Finley, daughters; Valerie Harrity (Thomas) and Lori Hoben (Merle), sister Marjorie Atchison, grandchildren; Ryan Harrity, Aaron Harrity (Marina), Patricia Harrity, Shelby Hoben (Eddie) and Douglas Hoben, great grandchildren; George and Posie Byrne, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Byrne and Greta, sister Kathleen, and first cousin and dearest friend Carol Olton.
Isabel met her life-long partner and best friend, Ken Finley at the young age of 16. With a love like no other, Isabel and Ken were married in 1956. In the early years of their marriage, Isabel worked doing administration at Irving Oil. Isabel and Ken began their family in 1961 – at which point Isabel became a stay-at-home mother for the early years of the lives of her three children. She later returned to work at K-Mart, where she became well-known as one of the kindest, sweetest hearts in the westside community. She retired from the K-mart after working there for 25 years, and spent her retirement enjoying time with family and friends. A naturally playful and creative soul, Isabel enjoyed playing cards, dancing, listing to music, painting, knitting, swimming, and watching horror movies and comedy sitcoms. She passed many of these hobbies down to her children and grandchildren, who hold the memories of engaging in these pastimes alongside Isabel close to their hearts.
Isabel was the textbook definition of a perfect wife, mother, grandmother, and in recent years, great-grandmother. Isabel worked tirelessly to always ensure that her loved ones were well taken care of. Whether it be through maintaining a spotless home environment for her husband and children, by making and sharing countless homecooked meals and delicious baked goods, or by showering her loved ones with words of support, hugs, and kisses, Isabel made sure those dearest to her understood how much they were loved. A generous, kind soul, who was not afraid to stand up for the things she believed in, Isabel made a lasting impression on those she encountered. With her sharp and witty sense of humour, Isabel always sought to bring a smile to the faces of those around her. A light in the lives of many, Isabel will be dearly missed by those who knew her and will continued to be loved by family and friends near and far.
Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3 506-634-1701. Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 4, 2021 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
