Obituary of Joseph Benoit

In his 93rd year, Joseph "Clovis" Benoit passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Clovis was born in Tracadie, NB to the late Joseph Charles and Marie Marthe (McLaughlin) Benoit. Clovis grew up in the small rural farming community of Saint-Irénée, NB he lived with his parents on the family farm until they both passed away. Clovis often said he was never meant to be a farmer, so he moved to Saint John in 1966 to find work. He obtained employment at Centracare as an orderly, where he retired after 21 years of service. Clovis met his wife Mary Maloney at Centracare where they were both employed. Clovis was a devote Catholic his entire life and lived his life true to his Catholic principles. He was very strong in his faith and would always attend or watch TV Mass every day. He was also a long-time parishioner at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. Clovis was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is predeceased by his parents, wife Mary Theresa (Maloney) Benoit, 4 brothers; Jonah, Alexander, Charles and William, and sisters Marie Mabel Losier and Clauthilde McLaughlin. Clovis is survived by many nieces and nephews in Saint John and Tracadie-Sheila areas. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 18, 2020 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. *Please be advised due to the current public health situation only limited amount of visitors are allowed entry at one time.*A Private Family Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church on Friday, June 19, 2020 with interment following in Holy Cross Cemetery.
