Phil gave me my last ride out of Moncton, to Halifax, before I left the Maritimes as a young girl to try life in the big city (Pittsburgh) on my own. A bit anxious, about life away from my family, I talked pretty non-stop all the way from Moncton to Halifax. A patient and quiet man, Phil said twenty words to my every two hundred, but never an unkind word. As another girl-next-door on Emmerson St. to the the incredible MacDonald clan, Phil was like a big, brother, always there, in the background, for me. He was very much like the beautiful trees that frame him, sitting content, in his boat, on the water, on this site. He stood, straight and strong, behind you, He was a safe and solid presence in my life as a little girl, growing up, playing with his little sister 'Patty' (Morag). Gentle hugs to you, Morag and David (the other kind 'big' brother). I am so sorry I cannot be there to give them to you both in person. I am thankful good friends, immediate and extended family, are there for you and that you - along with Maryann and Kenzie - are all being held lovingly and prayerfully in all of our hearts.

We knew Phil through his sister, our dear friend Morag (Pat to some). Because Phil and Morag were so close, Deborah and I came to know and love Phil as well. What a wonderful, unassuming and fun man he was. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a wry comment to make. He made it a point to search out the humour in things, always wanting to lighten the mood and make every moment as positive as he could. He cared. I will remember our conversations about war movies and shows and his love for history. That concern was of course secondary to his love for his dogs and the natural world he moved so freely in. We wish to express our deepest most sympathy to Maryann, Kenzie, Morag, David and the numerous others who had the good fortune to know Phil. He was a special man.

When I think of Phil I can hear his laugh and will always remember that great sound! Phil was a true sweetheart and a really great guy! As the girl next door, Phil always had a special spot in my heart. We were so fortunate because our families were very much entwined. I was especially fortunate to spend many summers at Grammy McCarthy's in Loch Lomand. Phil was the extra cool one who was involved in so many interesting things while the rest of us were just being regular teenagers. He was cool but quiet about what he was doing which was everything from Army Cadets to training dogs to so many unique outdoor interests. He excelled at so many things! He will be greatly missed by his immediate family of Kenzie of whom he was so very proud, his older brother David and Morag who loved her brother dearly as well as Maryann and the rest of us in his extended family! Always in our hearts Phil! Much Love! Priscilla

Growing up on Emerson Street was always so much fun we were all a family. I was quite young to remember a lot about Phil in the early years. One thing that really stands out for me is him and Patty laughing a lot & loud. Yes and of course the black labs. My favourite was Ace. Rest In Peace.

I knew Phil as a friend as a child. Hunted with him and his dad as a teenager. Lost track of him for many years but met again at his mom's funeral. My sympathy to Pat and Dave. All the best. Chris
