Obituary of Douglas Benjamin Sherrard

The family of Douglas Benjamin Sherrard are saddened to announce his peaceful passing on June 22, 2017 at his home, with his loving wife by his side. Doug was born on March 30, 1949 in Saint John, NB to Thomas Allan and Zena Ann (Lahey) Sherrard. After attending SJ Vocational School, he immediately joined the Armed Forces and enjoyed an exciting 27 year career as a Steward. After his retirement he worked for Bank of Canada, Loomis Armored Car, Industrial Security, RMH, NCO and Corps of Commissionaire. He was a member of the NB Mason’s Lodge #22, and Wesley United Church, Brown’s Flat. Doug’s interests were in going on day trips, rifle and pistol target shooting, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends, especially his dear grandson Seth. Doug always was the happiest when serving others, especially when friends, family and neighbors visited him and Brenda. Predeceased by his Mom and Dad, and his first wife, the late Valli Catherine (Bishop). Doug is survived by his loving wife Brenda (Bogle) (Cochrane) Sherrard, stepson Mitch (Stephanie) Cochrane, stepdaughter Chelsea Cochrane (David), grandson Seth Cochrane, sister Heather (Gordon) Leary of Stanley NB, cousin and best friend Brian (Shirley) Dykeman, several cousins, nephews and a niece. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the SJRH Oncology Department, Mary Lou Cassidy for her exceptional kindness and compassion, and to all our friends and neighbours who have shown love and support during our journey. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634 1701). Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 25th, from 2:00PM- 8:00PM. A Mason service will be held on Sunday, June 25th at 7:00PM. A funeral service will be held Monday, June 26th, 2017 at 11:00AM in the Castle “Fallsview” Chapel.
