Obituary of Mae Violet Pike
Mae V. Pike Passed away peacefully on April 16 2019 at the age of 104 years. Mae will be remembered as being quick witted, loving, feisty and fiercely independent who loved to laugh and have fun. Always game for anything; she had a zest for life and saw the positive in every situation. She loved animals, nature, doing cross words and puzzles, watching sports, reading the newspaper cover to cover, travelling, and knitting - donating many baby caps to the IWK. In her earlier years she loved a good party, dancing, playing cards and travelling to Florida with her sister. Mae graduated from the first hairdressing program offered by Saint John Vocational School in 1930 and went on to work as a hair stylist for the next 49 years and managed the beauty salon in MRA`s department store. She is survived by a special niece, Mary Edith (Carvell) Melanson (Paul); her great nieces, Krista (Greg) and Andrea; and one great great nephew, Lucas; along with several nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late William R. and Mary (Milley) Pike of Newfoundland. Predeceased by six brothers, Al, Harry, Bill, Herb, Ches and Mac and one sister, Evelyn (Carvell). A special thanks to the staff at Loch Lomond Villa for her care. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John NB E2M2L3 506-634-1701. At her request, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd at 2:00PM in Ocean View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 715 Latimore Lake Rd, friends and family are welcome to attend.
