Obituary of Constance Floyd
It is with heavy hearts and gratitude for a life well lived that the family of Constance Geraldine Floyd (Garfield) wishes to announce her passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on September 22, 2017. Born in Saint John, NB on September 8, 1931, she was a daughter of the late William Garfield, and Florence Garfield (Archibald). Connie will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 62 years Russell E. Floyd, and their nine children - sons Kim Floyd (Cathy) of Barrie, Ontario, Steven Floyd (Mary) of Grand Bay-Westfield, Harold Floyd of Saint John, Michael Floyd (Helen) of Saint John, Dale Floyd (Carla) of Cornwall, Ontario, and daughters Brenda Walker of Saint John, Candace Floyd (Brian) of Saint John, Tracey Guiry (Justin) of Falmouth, NS, and Tanya Lawlor (George) of Saint John. Nanny Floyd will be missed forever by 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters June Garfield of Saint John and Gail Fisher of Quispamsis, brother-in-law Jack Garnett of Quispamsis, and sister-in-law Mary Floyd of Quispamsis, NB Along with her parents, Connie was predeceased by her sisters Betty Garfield and Faye Garnett, brothers William, Alfred and Donnie, sister-in-law Dorothy (Art Hughes), brother-in-law Murray Floyd, and cherished daughter-in-law Kimberly (Harold Floyd). Connie met Russell while working at Irving Oil. She then dedicated her life to caring for a large family while also keeping the books for Russell’s owner/operator activities. Later, they branched out on their own creating Ruscon Trucking, which operated for 17 successful years. She was quietly proud of her husband and children and loved hearing about their accomplishments. The work she did on the home-front was tireless and her efforts shone through in the character of her children. She faced the trials in her life without complaint. Those that had the pleasure of knowing her can attest to a legendary ability to bring hilarity and laughter to every situation. She kept everyone on their toes never knowing what she might say next! She enjoyed sing-songs, going for drives and a good game of cards or Yahtzee. Her ability to do math in her head was extraordinary. She was a great cook, but always said that a meal prepared by someone else was wonderful. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB (506-634-1701). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 26 from 10:00am- 12:00 noon for immediate and extended family. A Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, September 26 at 12:00 noon. A reception will follow the service. Interment will take place at River Bank Cemetery in Sussex, after the reception. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
