I learned only today of Linda's passing, and want to express my deep sympathy to her family at this time of such loss. I knew Linda as a dedicated, articulate, always-positive colleague during my years at UNBSJ, and know how much she contributed to her field and to the university - scores of students and colleagues will remember with respect and affection. I will always remember the courage she showed not long after her first diagnosis, and know she lived to the fullest as long as she could. Her smile lightened any gloom, and her cheery outlook was an inspiration. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Kathy Hamer

I first met Linda when she was a student in my sociology class at UNB in Saint John while she was preparing to study for the PhD. She was a wonderful contributor to my class discussions, and later a warmly respected colleague. She was truly a bright light in the world and inspired all with whom she came in contact. May she rest in peace. My sincere condolences to her family and dear friends.

Linda was a good friend to my wife, myself and daughter. Linda was always upbeat and inquisitive with a genuine interest in ones life. She often asked my daughter (Robyn) about her latest adventure that (Sandee) my wife, a great story teller herself, would share with Linda. Linda was kind, full of energy, life and wisdom. It was a joy to get to know her and John better over the years. Linda was a force to be reckoned with in life, as a scholar and very personable with the people around her. I am sure Sandee would have been one of the first to greet Linda in heaven and they are catching up with each other.Sandee may even be providing Linda with a tour and seating plan..that's how efficient those two were. Linda did love to laugh. I appreciated the chance to know her. I wish John and his family my condolences on behalf of Robyn and myself.

Opening my email files this morning and reading UNB's announcement of Linda's death leaves me sad. My condolences to family members who I've never met, but knew something of you through the years Linda was a graduate student at UNB. It was such a pleasure to work with her, and I'm proud of the co-authored book chapter that we published in 2008. Her reflective thoughts about scholarship in the last section of the chapter speaks to the quality and thoughtfulness of her research.

Nancy, Mary, Kerry and Bill, ...... Although prepared for the notification of Linda's passing, it was a compete and very sad thing when I did receive it. Linda was like a sister to me through the years of being in the Trewin family and even in later years. In growing up, 'the professional student' was always looking for avenues of learning her passion of helping others which eventually became the profession of nursing that lent to that passion. She will, without a doubt, be remembered for her compassion and concern for helping others regardless of her own environment. Again, she was certainly 'one of a kind'! I realize that this sad time will have an impact on each and everyone of you, but do remember the excellent times spent with her whether 'one on one' or in a family setting, whether in the growing up years in the Amherst or Parrsboro area or in later years of her own married life with her husband John, Beth and JT. Let these memories carry you through the upcoming hours, days and months until you meet again..... and think of the reunion she is having with loved ones that have gone before...... one can only imagine the chatting going on. Love and prayers to each and every one of you.

John, I was so saddened to hear of Linda's passing. Linda was a very special friend in my growing up with the Trewin family and eventual marriage to her sister Nancy. You could always count on Linda to be there for you as a friend during a crisis or as a friend to join in on a celebration of any kind. Linda continually afforded a special time for me each time we met, a one on one, to glean all the latest news of our lives..... and it was always genuine, not just a passing moment that she thought one expected, but sincere concern. That concern for others extended to all her friends throughout her entire life. She was truly a 'one of a kind'! My heartfelt sorrow to both Beth and JT as well. They are both a fine example of the love, understanding and pride from both you and Linda. It will not be possible for me to be with you all in the celebrating of Linda's life, but rest assured that my thoughts and prayers will be with you all.

John, JT, Beth & Nick, Linda was a truly remarkable woman and the wonderful tribute to her that you have so lovingly prepared captures her perfectly. From the first time I met Linda over ten years ago, I was immediately struck by her warmth, her always welcoming personality and her genuine interest in people. Regardless of the context in which people knew Linda - former students, colleagues in the academy and in the nursing profession, and her many friends (anyone who met Linda even once couldn't help but feel like they were her friend), the reaction when she was spoken of or her name came up was always the same - framed by a smile and warm words. Linda was a sincere, hardworking, brave and compassionate lady. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you at this very difficult time. We are all enriched for having had the privilege of knowing Linda! Sincerely, Scott Brittain

John and Family - on behalf of the congregation of Brunswick Street Baptist Church I want to express our sympathy and continued prayer support of you on Linda's passing. Over these past years Cheryl Gibson has helped us to focus our prayers on Linda's needs during her cancer journey. Personally, I have been blessed by the opportunity to know "The Catholic Kid" as she always signed her cards and to be considered her "Baptist Pastor" was a unique and cherished privilege. Personally and corporately we will continue to pray for you - that all she taught you and shared with you will help you in your journey in the days ahead. Queen Elizabeth has famously said that "grief is the price we pay for love." From my limited contact with Linda I recognize that your loss is great and we ask God to comfort you in it. You cannot imagine my joy to meet her again nearly 20 years later when I started teaching with UNBSJ, where again, her presence, professionalism and dedication to nursing and nursing research continued to inspire me. Like so many other classmates, we all went our separate ways and after 45 years this past August, many of us were fortunate to get to see each other again. It so special to be able to reconnect with her at that time as I know it was a huge effort on her part to attend.
