Obituary of Merle Reuben John Hoben
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Merle Reuben John Hoben announces his passing on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Shannex Tuckerhall. Merle was born on August 18, 1940 in Gagetown, NB to the late Reuben and Alma (Campbell) Hoben. Merle was a Saint John Firefighter for 30 years, eventually becoming Captain before his retirement. Merle was a wheeler and dealer. He loved reselling cars, trailers, lawnmowers and basically anything he could get his hands on; he would fix up and sell. Merle also had many fond memories trailering and boating around the Maritimes with his family. Merle will be dearly missed by his wife Jane Hoben and their children; Merle Hoben (Lori) and Tammy Seelye (Jason), brother Floyd Hoben (Ann), sisters; Valerie Medford (Chris) and Lenta Hoben, grandchildren; Shelby, Douglas and Paige, great grandson George and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3, 506-634-1701. Close friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 5:00PM-8:00PM. Please be advised due to COVID-19 only a limited of visitors are allowed entry. A Private Family Funeral Service will be held from Castle “Fallsview” Chapel. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Merle’s memory can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences can be made at www.castlefh.com.
