Obituary of Laura Mary Limkilde

With her family by her side, Laura Mary Limkilde (Whipple) passed away quietly on August 17th at Rocmaura Nursing Home at the age of 97. Laura was the loving wife of the late Ronald Lewis Limkilde and the daughter of the late Leonard and Alice Whipple. Laura is survived by her children Beth Moore (Ron), Gary Limkilde (Mary), Roger Limkilde (Kim); granddaughters Cheryl Stiles (Mark), Kristen Wentzell (Jon), Robyn Moore (Calvin), Heather Limkilde, Laura Limkilde (Craig), Andrea Limkilde, Jillian Limkilde (Nick) and Erika Limkilde. She is also survived by her nine grant-grandchildren Gregor, Matthew, William, Camden, Julia, Addison, Caitlin, Devyn, Hayden and Camdyn. Laura was a life-long resident of Saint John where she grew up, worked, married, and raised her children. She loved spending time with her eight granddaughters watching them grow and flourish into adulthood and she cherished time spent with her great-grandchildren. Laura grew up on Celebration Street and had many fond memories of Rockwood Park, Holy Trinity School and Saint Vincent’s High School. She was proud of her high school graduation diploma from Saint Vincent’s in 1940 and went on to work at a number of jobs over the years starting with the Red Rose Tea Company in 1940. Laura loved to spend time at the cottage Ron built in Bayswater and travelled with Ron after his retirement, her favorite trip being Saint Anne de Beaupres in Quebec. She also enjoyed painting and writing poetry. Laura was active in the parish of Saint Rose of Lima, a member of the Catholic Women’s League, and in her later years was often seen at weekday masses. She was an active volunteer at a number of agencies including Meals on Wheels, Rocmaura Nursing Home where she would later reside, and the Red Cross where she would visit seniors in their homes. Laura also had a special place in her heart for people with mental and physical challenges. The family wish to thank all the staff at Rocmaura Nursing Home for their wonderful care of our mother in the last three years of her life. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, NB E2M 2L3. 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held at Castle Funeral Home on Tuesday, Aug 21th from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Rose of Lima Church on Wednesday, Aug, 22st, at 10:30 AM with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception will take place at Castle Funeral Home, Fallsview Reception Centre after the burial. For those who wish, donations in the memory of Laura may be made to Rocmaura Foundation.
