James (Jim) Woodman posted a condolence

Her's was the way of words, I remember my first visit, bing just 8 years old, there would be others, but her greatest impact on me was always the power of language, and how to speak properly, I shall always be indebted to her for that, and finally, the greatest of all, was the sound advise, she always provided. Aunt Jean was the one we most wanted to emulate and strive to be. She has such a history and involvement in any acadamia and its products. She was also involved in a book written about Memorial University, in St. John's, NL, called "A Bridge Built Half Way". May Aunt Jean rest eternal, and be remembered with love. Nephew, James (Jim) Woodman.

I am saddened to hear of Mrs. Matheson's passing. Mrs. Matheson was a wonderful Teacher and taught me so much about great classic reads. She was an elegant lady and she had eyes that would sparkle when she laughed. RIP

My family first met Jean and Stan when we purchased their home on Fundy Drive and later got to know them well when we attended Saint Columba Church. "Mrs. Matheson" later became one of my favorite teachers at Beaconsfield School. She was an elegant lady and a beautiful person. Our sympathy is extended to her family. Lynn Hawkins and John Hawkins

I guess I’m old enough now to call her Jean. She taught so many of us at Beaconsfield and certainly helped so many of us by setting a fine example. Calm, cool and sophisticated inspired respect. She got me started reading and I still am an ardent reader to this day. We thank you, Jean, for setting such a positive example, during our formative years. Rest well!

I was very sorry to learn of Jean's passing. I worked closely with her in Murray Maclaren Chapter of IODE of which she was a long term and well loved member. She was our "go to" member for information and advice. We enjoyed having meetings and visiting with her and Stan in their beautiful home and enjoyed the tours of their gardens. She was such a wonderful lady and who gave of her time and talents, and she will be missed.

Aunt Jean welcomed me into her home for the summer right after high school graduation. It was one I"ll never forget and I will always be grateful to her for sharing that time with me. She was a gentle lady who cared for so many and I was lucky enough to be one of them.
