Obituary of Bertha Stevens
Bertha “Stella” Stevens, wife of Donald Edward Stevens, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2017 at the SJRH. She was born on June 4, 1932 in Cornerbrook, NFLD to the late Martin and Mary Patience (Wiseman) Batstone. Bertha and her husband enjoyed going on motorcycle trips throughout the Maritimes, particularly NFLD and Cape Breton. For many years they also loved to go skating together at Lancaster rink and Harbor Station. They shared a passion for the outdoors, especially down-hill skiing. Bertha also adored the friendships she’s made at the Carleton Kirk over the past 6 years. Bertha was a devoted wife and mother, and will be dearly missed by her sons; Robert Martin (Linda) of Lorneville, NB and Roy Douglas (Carolyn) of Grand-Bay Westfield, NB; daughter Donna Louise MacPherson (Michael) of Ottawa, ON; brothers, Roy Batstone (Donna) of Cornerbrook, NFLD, Irving Batstone of Cornerbrook, NFLD; sister in-law, Elieen Batstone of Cornerbrook, NFLD; grandchildren, Bethany Stevens, Julie Stevens, Matthew Stevens, Sarah (Tyler) Collins, Olivia MacPherson, Heather MacPherson, several nieces and nephews. Bertha was predeceased by her parents, husband, brother Arthur Batstone, sister Ester and husband Shirley Norman, and sister in-law Gertrude Irving. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634 1701). A reception will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 2:00PM-4:00PM.
