How can I best describe John? Brutally honest, trustworthy and true to his word. His laugh was infectious. John was committed to life long learning and took professional development very seriously. He once told me that one of the reasons he chose to work with our firm was because we also recognized the important of continuing education for our staff. When you were in a meeting with John you always knew when the conversation was getting serious because he would tip his head and give you that look over the top of his glasses. Over my 30 plus years in the engineering field I have had the opportunity to work with John, Susan, Andrew and Judith on may projects. Although the majority of these projects went extremely well there would occasionally be a project that did not go as well as you would hope. On those rare occasions when this happened there would naturally be concern on whether or not you would be getting paid for your services, but John would always be in your corner and when he told you not to worry and that you would be taken care of, his word was solid. And coming from a structural engineer that was always very reassuring. In the engineering field you need to have mentors that will give you advice and provide you with guidance along the way. That is what John was to me and he will be missed. Thank you John!!

I don't remember how we initially connected with John but he has always been wonderful to work with. So smart and yet realistic about what the important elements of a project of should be. He will be sadly missed by all...our thoughts are with you Susan, Andrew and family.

We met John and Susan on a cruise last year as our tablemates and instantly clicked when we learned John was an avid NY Yankee fan Conversations were never at a loss, along with his laughter, smiles and wonderful stories he shared. Great memories. Our thoughts and prayers are with Susan and the family.

I will miss John tremendously. I work for an ophthalmologist and we shared laughter when ever he came in. No one pulled off wearing a kilt like him. He was the busiest man I know and traveled well. He is a man that was easy to love. What a joy. I am going to miss him

I did not know John well however I do have a great anecdote. There was a meeting I was asked to attend with a mutual client; a Senator from Nova Scotia named Don Oliver about a project in Saint John. At the time, I did not know what either the Senator or John looked liked. Upon arriving at the meeting, there were two men; one man with a Kilt, a little eccentric, and doing all the talking and another man who was quite tall and imposing and an African Canadian. They literally could not have looked any more different. Trying to pick up on the cues, I just assumed John was the Senator from NS based on the fact that he was wearing a kilt and doing all the talking. It was not until a little later that I actually found out who was who; i.e. that it was John who was wearing the kilt and that the Senator was African Canadian. When I later told the Senator in private that I originally thought the John was the Senator, and that he was the structural engineer, he let out a great roar of laughter, which I can still hear today 20 years later. My thoughts are with you today and I'm sorry for you loss.
