Obituary of Michael William Ryan
Michael William Ryan passed away in Saint John on November 5, 2019. Michael grew up in Randolph and was a true Saint John Westsider. He attended Denis Morris, Saint Rose and Vocational schools. In his teens, Michael went to sea working for Kent Line. As a young man he suffered a workplace injury, requiring many surgeries and eventually resulting in the loss of his leg years later. Michael was a numbers guy. He worked for Brewster’s Machine Shop and in purchasing for Sunny Corner. Mike loved cars and working with his grandfather Fred’s tools. Mike was always in for a good laugh with his buddies and was especially known for his adventures with his friends. Michael is survived by his mother Patricia Spinney Ryan, his sisters Kathleen (Grant Elliott) and Claire (Andre Brodeur), his five nephews - Ryan, Alexander, Max, Leo and Luc, and one niece Lily. Michael was predeceased by his brother Eric David and his father F. William (Bill) Ryan. He will be remembered and missed by his family and friends. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3 506-634-1701. All are invited to the interment at Greenwood Cemetery at 3:00 pm on Monday, November 25 followed by a reception from 4:00-6:00 pm at Denis Morris Community Centre at 330 Green Head Road, Saint John. Donations in Michael’s memory can be made to Diabetes Canada or the charity of the donor’s choice.
