Obituary of Margaret Ann Macaskie Smith

Margaret Ann Macaskie (Wallace) Smith passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, January 20, 2018. The daughter of the late Archibald and Margaret (Dunn) Wallace, she was born in Lanackshire, Scotland in 1926, and migrated with her family as a young child to Hartland, NB. She later moved to Saint John where she met her husband, Frank, and raised three children. During her career years, she worked at Sears Canada Ltd. She loved to read and was an avid story teller. For many years, Margaret was an active member and past president of the Christian Women’s Association of the Church of the Good Shepherd. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Quilters Guild and enjoyed taking part in making many beautiful quilts. She was also actively involved in several other community-based projects. Besides her parents, Margaret is pre-deceased by sister; Irene Szumigaj of Maddock, Ont., brother in laws; Frank Szumigaj of Maddock, Ont., Gordon Howes of Dartmouth, NS and Lorne Shaw of Saint John, NB. Margaret is survived by her husband of 65 years, Frank Martin Smith, residing at the Ridgewood Veterans Hospital, sons; Gregory (Deborah) Smith of Grand Bay, NB and John Smith of Saint John, NB, daughter; Martha (Mark) Smith of Quispamsis, NB, sisters; Agnus Howes of Dartmouth, NS and Virginia Shaw of Saint John, NB, two grandchildren; Lauren and Victoria, as well as several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634 1701). A visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 23rd from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held from Castle Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, January 24th at 11 a.m. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
