Obituary of G. L. McKenzie

“Blake” G. L. McKenzie, of Saint John N.B., passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on December 7, 2018. Born in Shannon, N.B., June 25th, 1943 he was the son of the late Lucy Greta Greenslade and Leslie James McKenzie. At the young age of 14, Blake left school and worked cutting pulpwood to help support his family. From there on he was an oil burner mechanic with LeRoy’s Burner Service, retiring after 40 years. Blake’s most important thing was his family and is survived by his companion, Freda Jesso, his only daughter which was his pride and joy; Tanya McKenzie Bastarache of Calgary, AB, brothers; Gordon (Melvina Brooks) McKenzie of Saint John, NB, Dougie McKenzie of Martinon, NB, sisters; Donna Brown of Saint John, NB, Bessie Green of Monticello, USA, 2 grand-children who were his life; Cole and Kristin Bastarache, and several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his first wife; Cheryl (Cobham) McKenzie, brothers; Donald and Stanley and sister Theresa Debbie. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634 1701). Visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 10th from 2 PM to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held from Castle Funeral Home Fallsview Chapel on Tuesday, Dec. 11th at 11 AM. Burial will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery with a reception to follow at Castle Funeral Home Reception Centre. A wake will take place afterward at Legion #69. Donations in Blake’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.
