Obituary of Carole Sandra Gray
It is with profound sadness the family of Carole Sandra Gray (Thorne) announce her passing on Sunday, July 29th at the SJRH, while surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on March 9, 1934 in Saint John, NB to the late Richard and Myrtle Thorne. Carole was better known by everyone as ‘Nan’ and was also known for her quick and witty one liners. She enjoyed spending her time playing bingo, reading and spending time with her family. Carole was an especially loving caregiver, mother and grandmother; having a special relationship with her granddaughter Colleen. Before becoming a homemaker, Carole worked for several years at the Dominion Grocery Store and Best for Less. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband William “Bill” Gray, children; Bill Gray Jr. (Cindy), Phil Gray (Andrea), and Sandra Mckinney (Austin), brothers; Eugene Thorne (Barb), Phillip Thorne, and Leslie Thorne (Lorna), sister June Goss, seven grandchildren; Colleen, Jason, Jeff, Bill, Andrew, Catherine and Jonathan, six great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and her special caregiver PattiBlack (Patti Riley). Carole is predeceased by her parents, sisters; Shirley Adams, Nancy Levine, Norma Sambles and Constance Murphy, brothers; William Thorne, Richard Thorne and David Thorne. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John NB, E2M2L3, 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held at Castle on Wednesday, August 1st from 2PM-8PM. A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, August 2nd in Castle Funeral Home Chapel at 11AM. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A reception will be held at Castle “Fallsview” Reception Center following interment. Donations in Nan’s memory can be made to Bobby’s Hospice or the donor’s choice.
