Obituary of Robert Grant Splane

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Robert Grant Splane announces his unexpected death on May 12, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Bob was born on December 6, 1931 in Saint John, NB to the late Robert Splane and Beulah (Galbraith) Splane of Lorneville . He graduated as an electrician from Vocational School and was a member of the Cadets winning the Dominion Marksmanship Award. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 502. Bob worked at the Irving Pulp and Paper Mill in the west side then moved to the Rothesay MacMillan Pulp Mill which later became Irving Paper, working there as an electrical supervisor until his retirement in 1991. Marilyn and Bob could be found on weekends or holidays going on road trips around the Maritimes and Maine or heading to New River beach for the afternoon. Bob had a great sense of adventure; he loved lobster fishing with his brother John in Lorneville and being outdoors snowshoeing in the winter and camping and trailering during the summer often to Deer Island and Fundy National Park until his seventies, in later years he liked going for drives along the shore. Bob will be sadly missed by his daughters Nancy Splane and Sharon Ganz ( Terry Ganz ), grandchildren; Gail Duke and Jennifer Duke (Steve Henderson) great grandchildren; Matthew Duke and Marilyn McDonough and several nieces and nephews, and brother in law Ralph Wilson. Bob was predeceased by wife Marilyn Dawn (Robson), great grandson Troy Carr, his parents Robert and Beulah, and step mother Margaret, sister Shirley Wilson, brother John Splane, sister in law Bessie Splane, nephew John Splane. Arrangements have been entrusted with Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3, 506-634-1701. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions a Private Graveside Service will be held in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
