Obituary of Maurice Beverly Rees
It is with heavy hearts the family of Maurice Beverly Rees, husband of L. Irene (Wooden) Rees wish to announce his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday February 14, 2018. Born in 1933 at Cambridge Narrows, N.B., Maurice was a son of the late Marshall W. and Catherine I. (Stewart) Rees. Maurice had many jobs over the years, he had been a Burner at the Saint John Shipyard, a City Transit Bus Driver, and a Taxi Cab Driver, driving for ABC, Diamond, and Coastal Taxi’s. He loved to play guitar and in his younger years toured with the Phillips Brothers Band, and used to sing at local fairs with his young daughter Anne. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved to bowl and played in many leagues around the city, and was a baseball umpire for a number of years. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. Maurice is survived by his beloved wife, L. Irene (Wooden) Rees, Daughters, Anne Merzetti (Stephen), of Calgary, Alberta, Karen Rees Ducey, of Saint John, Stacey Ducey (Cory), of Saint John, Kelly Cross (Greg), of Canal, N.B., and one son, Jeffrey Rees, of Grand Bay, N.B., one brother, Walter Rees (Marilyn), of Saint John, five grandchildren, Dr. Eric Merzetti (Sheena Fry), of Moncton, N.B., Alan Cross (Noel Atkin), of Moncton, N.B., Haley Cross (Justin Leavitt), of Moncton, N.B., Jaiden Ducey, and Aiden Hartt, both of Saint John, N.B., and one great granddaughter Kiara Leavitt, of Moncton, N.B. Maurice was predeceased by his parents, one son, Troy Rees, his son-in-law, Frank Ducey, brothers, Alvin Rees (Verna), Royden Rees (Harriett), Lawrence Rees (Dorothy), and Fred Rees (Lois). Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634 1701) have been entrusted with the arrangements. A Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00PM and 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Hillcrest Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 from Hillcrest Baptist Church at 2:00PM. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery following the service. A reception will be held at Hillcrest Baptist Church following the burial. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation society or the charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
