Obituary of Arnold Francis Derks
It is with great sadness the Family announces the death of Arnold Derks, formerly of Sea Street Manor. Arnold passed away peacefully at Bobby’s Hospice, October 8, 2017. Born in Bemmel, Netherlands, on June 7, 1930 to the late Henry and Catharina (Helsen). Arnold Immigrated to Canada in 1955, and was both proud of his Dutch heritage and his Canadian Citizenship. He started his career with Olands Brewery in 1957, where he worked and was a valued employee until retirement in 1992. Arnold was an important supporting member of the “Scholten” family, of his sister Miep and brother-in-law Peter. Arnold was hardworking, loyal, independent and a gentle man. Arnold was a fan of wrestling, enjoyed traveling and participating in family events from birthdays to weddings. Predeceased by mother and father, brother Peter and sister Wilhelmina, niece Emily Scholten, Arnold is survived by five Sisters (Annie, Reit, Toos, Yet, and Fien) all of the Netherlands. Uncle Arnold will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews in Canada and the Netherlands. Special thanks to Rose Magleave, Arnold’s Manager, as he called her, from an appreciative family. And to the staff at Sea Street Manor and Bobby’s Hospice, a big thank-you for the excellent care and love given to Arnold in his final days. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB, E2M 2L3, (634-1701). Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct 13, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM.
