Obituary of Douglas Vernon Magee
The passing of Douglas Vernon Magee, a 55-year resident of Grand Bay-Westfield, occurred April 22, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a four year struggle with declining health. He was the son of James and Evelyn (Watters) Magee born on Jan. 30, 1935 in Lancaster (Saint John), New Brunswick. He was predeceased by his wife Audrey (Washburn), son John (Christine) and infant daughter Wendy Lynn, as well as his parents, brothers Gordon, Ronald, Russell, Edwin, Stanley and his sister Dorothy. He is survived by his son Richard (Allyson), David (Lisa), Bill (Heather), Robert (Cindi), daughter Caroline (James), his brother Ralph (Eileen), his 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Doug held several jobs throughout his life but is best known for the time spent employed by the Town of Grand Bay-Westfield. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He had a special place in his heart for his daughter Caroline and granddaughter Shantel, who lived with and cared for him during his final years, and Bill, who was responsible for much of the maintenance around his home. His family offers a special thanks to Carol, who was his home care worker for many years. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John NB, E2M2L3 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held Monday, April 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 1 at 11 a.m. in Castle Fallsview Chapel. Family interment will follow at the Church of the Good Sheppard Cemetery on Manawagonish Road in Saint John. A reception will be held at the Anglican Church of the Resurrection on MacDonald Avenue in Grand Bay-Westfield after internment.
