Obituary of Ralph Owen Yeo

It is with great sadness that the family of Ralph Owen Yeo of Saint John, announces his passing which occurred on September 6th, 2019 at Bobby’s Hospice. Born in Alberton, PEI on February 12, 1949 Ralph was the son of the late Sherman and Ruby (Gordon) Yeo. He was predeceased by his 3 sisters – Anne Marie, Cindy and Trudy. Ralph is survived by his wife of 42 years, Roberta Lynn (Chittick); his brothers Fenton (Margaret) of Saskatchewan, Barry of Saint John, Dean (Cheryl) of Nova Scotia; sons Jeff (Stephanie) of Nova Scotia, Sherman (Paula) of Quispamsis; grandchildren Kristoffer, Dalton, Anna; great grandson Sylan. Ralph worked as an orderly in the SJ General, St. Joseph’s and the DVA. He then worked for the Holt family at the Valley Tavern and then as a bartender for the Elks Club. With luck on his side he then joined the Moosehead family working in the brewery on Main Street. Ralph loved his job and his union brothers of Local 362. His drink of choice was Ten Penny back in the 70’s and in his later years Moosehead Pale Ale. Ralph was overwhelmed when he reached is 25th year at Moosehead and became a proud member of the 25 Year Club. In his younger years Ralph loved playing sports- soccer, baseball, hockey, curling and shuffleboard. He was so proud to win a spot on the New Brunswick Shuffleboard team to participate in the Nationals in British Columbia and Ontario. Every Labour Day weekend there was a brewery ball tournament held in the Atlantic Provinces. Ralph loved these weekends as he met many men from the other breweries and formed friendships over the years. Ralph was a true Montreal Canadian fan even though he was disappointed with the team the last few years. Ralph loved watching Sherman and all the boys play baseball and hockey. A lot of travelling over the years made many great family friendships that are still strong today. When the boys were young Ralph would tell them if you get me a goal “I’ll buy you a root beer.” His pride and joy came years later when Dalton and Anna born. Ralph wanted to be called “Pop” like his grandfather but Dalton named him “Poppo.” Ralph’s last road trip was in May to watch Dalton at his ball practice. We would like to thank the ANGELS who helped us the past 5 years – Dr. Anderani and the Respiratory Team at the Regional Hospital; Jennifer Brown; Dr. Awan; the Xtra Mural Nurses who helped him to live at home for a month; and the Special Team at Bobby’s Hospice who treated him like a “King” in his final days of his life. Ralph told everyone that Bobby’s Hospice was “the best 5 star hotel in town.’ Thanks to all of his friends who came to visit. He was thrilled with the company and all of the stories that were told. Happy Trails Ralph – Until we meet again! Love Roberta XO Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3 506-634-1701.
