Obituary of Bonnie Irene Wilson
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bonnie Irene Wilson, loving wife of Roland for 48 years, who went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 30th, 2018 after a two-year battle with breast cancer. During her entire illness she always maintained a positive attitude, never bitter or complaining of her condition or potential fate. Upon being diagnosed a second time that the cancer had spread, she said The Lord has a plan and that's the way it will be. If someone asked her how she was doing, she would always say "not too bad", with her thoughts that after seeing all the young people who are dealing with similar situations, there were a lot of people worse off than she was. Bonnie was born in Halifax, N.S in 1949; the daughter of Ernest and Gladys Coldrick. She lived in Hamilton, Ont. until she was ten years old then moving to Saint John. A few years later, she met Roland and married in 1969. In 1979, they built a home in Lorneville where they have since resided, raising a family and attending meeting assembly in the village. After attending Saint John Vocational School, she began working for United Stores on Charlotte Street in 1963 as a sales clerk, and later worked in the accounting office. She also modeled their clothing lines weekly on CHSJ-TV. In 1965, she began an 11-year career at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce on King Street, beginning as a teller and upon leaving, as supervisor of foreign exchange. She gave up her career to be the loving stay-at-home mother of her four boys. She was a very kind, care-giving, and compassionate soul, always concerned about family, friends, and her friend's friends. She loved to laugh and have fun. She was an excellent cook and always made a point to celebrate birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and other special occasions with her family with a desire that they would always care for each other and stay together. She loved animals, especially her sheepdog, Shelby and her cat, Autumn, who spent many hours at her bedside through her illness. She was very gifted in floral and garden design and gardened over a period of 47 years; a member of the Fundy Garden Club since it was established in 1995. She was also very talented in sewing, tole painting, cake decorating, upholstering, and numerous other crafts. She sold her crafts for 15 years at the Brunswick Square Christmas craft sale and at various other locations in southern N.B. At various times, she has volunteered for the cancer society, heart fund, and the regional hospital. In recent years, she loved to go on bus tours and had her trip of a lifetime in 2013 to England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales with Roland, and his brother Melvin and wife, Eileen. They made many new friends from Ont. & N.S. who she was still in contact with each year. She also enjoyed a number of trips with Nancy Drust of Nancy's Bus Tours, who she thought was the best, to different parts of Canada and the U.S. Bonnie will be dearly missed by her husband Roland, her four sons, Danny, Shaun, Ryan, and Brent; and the ones she called 'her girls': Emily and Kara. Loving sisters, Janie (Wally) Deveau and Irene (Don) Taylor; brother- and sister-in-law, Melvin and Eileen Wilson; nieces Kelli (Peter) Breau and Brenda (Greg) Keith; and many other nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her lifetime friend, Brenda (John) Tower; special friends, Judy (Kenny) Galbraith, Kathy (Len) Baird, Ann-Marie Beale, Berta (Dave) Curran, Rose (Hugh) Brittain, Sharon (Daryl) Wilson; and many others who's lives she touched. Bonnie was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Gladys Coldrick; brother, Danny; sister, Cheryl; and brother-in-law, Don Taylor It has been overwhelming the love, prayers, and support offered to her during her illness from her family, friends, and members of the meeting assemblies in Lorneville, Saint John, and elsewhere. Cards, letters, flowers, and food were brought to her home on over ninety separate occasions; sometimes full meals delivered hot from the oven. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Drs. Burnell, Chui, Naz, all the RNs in the oncology department, and the extra-mural services and support workers; they are truly second to none and exceptionally gifted as they deal daily with people facing the most difficult time in their lives. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John, N.B., with visitation on Friday, May 4 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held on May 5 at 11 AM followed by a celebration of her life. Internment will be held in Lorneville Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Bonnie's memory may be made to the Lorneville Cemetery, Gideon Bibles, or a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences can be made at: www.Castlefh.com
