Obituary of Marjorie Mabel Murray

Surrounded by family, Marjorie Mabel Murray passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the Veterans Health Unit, Fredericton, NB. Born January 24, 1921 in Sussex, NB, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Walter J. Morrow and Mabel V. (Lackie) Morrow. Marjorie is survived by daughters Harriet Taylor of Saint John and Barbara (William) Murray-White of Fredericton; 3 grand-children, Catherine (Kevin), Charles and Emily and also; step-grandchildren Step, Christopher, Molly, Charity, Andrew, Jeremy, 1 brother, Harry Morrow, and extended family. Pre-deceased by her parents; husband, Rev. Ivan C. Murray; daughter, Patricia C. (Murray) Dickie; brothers, Victor, Laurence, and Burton Morrow. Marjorie graduated from the Moncton School of Nursing and served overseas (World War II) as Lieutenant Nursing Sister in England, Belgium and France. Marjorie continued her nursing career at the Tuberculosis Hospital in East Saint John, and then as Head Nurse of Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing where she remained until her retirement. She was a founding member of the Heather Society, promoting Scottish culture and fundraising for the Heather Legion Pipes and Drums, and the Patricia Murray School of Highland Dance. She was an active member of the Eastern Star and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69. Marjorie was an avid traveler and gardener, and enjoyed playing games with family and friends. She loved time spent with her grandchildren, and she was respected and loved by all who knew her. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of the Veteran’s Health Unit in Fredericton for the exemplary care she received. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634 1701). A visitation will be held at Castle Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 2nd, from 4-8 p.m. An Anglican funeral service will be held from the Carleton Kirk United Church, 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3rd, with burial to take place in Cedar Hill Ext Cemetery on Manawagonish Road. Reception will follow at Castle Funeral Home Reception Centre. Donations to the Parkinson’s Association or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
