Obituary of Barb Louise Purcell

It is with broken hearts and appreciation for a life well lived that the family of Bertha “Barb” Louise (Miller) Purcell announces her unexpected passing on Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Barb was born on February 28, 1933 in Auburnville, NB to the late James and Elizabeth Miller. For many years Barb worked alongside her husband in their family business. She was creative and innovative and could conquer anything she put her mind to. She was an avid card and bingo player, enjoyed gardening, knitting, quilting and created many Halloween costumes for her children into their early adulthood. Barb had a smile that would light up a room, the best sense of humour and a laugh that will be forever remembered. She was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, her family and friends were very important to her. She loved family gatherings, music and dancing. She enjoyed going on trips with her sisters to Florida and to visit family in Nova Scotia and Ontario. Barb was a member of Lancaster Baptist Church, Ladies Auxiliary, Legion Branch #69 and the PROBUS Women’s Group of Saint John. Barb is survived by her children; Barb Walton (Rob Daigle), Debbie Newman (Dexter), Cindy Leavitt (Bucky), Kerry McGovern (Dave), and Scott Purcell (Heather), sisters; Catherine Coffin, Caroline Power and Clara Morrison, brothers; James Miller and Thomas Miller, grandchildren; Alex and Jessica Ferguson, Bailey Daye, Nick Leavitt, Rebecca Walton, Ben and Sam Purcell, one beloved great grandson Carson, including several special extended family members and friends. Barb is predeceased by her husband Robert G. Purcell, son Robert Purcell Jr., sisters; Elizabeth Walsh, Jessie Surette, Cecilia Miller, Hazel Savoie, and Viola Jones. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M2L3, 506-634-1701. At Barb’s request a Private (invitation only) Memorial Service will be held at Castle Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 2:00PM. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
