Obituary of Donald McGinnis

It’s with great sadness the family of Donald McGinnis announce his sudden passing on August 30th in Nova Scotia. He was the loving husband of Barbara (Lidstone) McGinnis for over 41 years. Donald was born on January 17th, 1951 to the late Francis and Theresa (O’Neil) McGinnis. Donald spent his career working as a teacher in District 8 and was very active at SJ High School where he taught for many years, retiring in 2015. He was a faithful Westsider giving back to the community by coaching Lancaster Basketball. Donald was a giver to his family and friends and enjoyed a good debate. His family and friends meant the utmost to him, he was a loyal friend and father. He was also a big Blue Jays fan. He will be forever missed by his loving wife Barbara, sons; Ian McGinnis of Saint John and Craig (Sarah) of Halifax, brother; Richard McGinnis (Florine) of Saint John, sisters in law; Susan McGinnis and Elizabeth Candline; several nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by his parents, brother Joseph F. McGinnis and daughter Colleen McGinnis. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home 309 Lancaster avenue, Saint John, NB, E2M 2L3. 506-634-1701. Visitation will take place on Monday, September 3, 2018 at Castle Funeral Home from 2PM-4PM and 6PM-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 4th at 12 Noon from Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church with a reception to follow at Castle Funeral Home. Interment will be held on Wednesday, September 5th in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations may be made to Romero House, Seafarers Mission or charity of donor’s choice.
