Obituary of Leo Francis Lohnes
It is with profound sadness that the family of Leo Francis Lohnes announce his passing on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, while surrounded by loved ones. Leo was born on August 26, 1940 to the late Leo and Evelyn (Long) Lohnes in Halifax, N.S. Leo worked many jobs in Halifax until getting a position with the Shipyard as a insulating foreman which took him to Saint John. He then met the love of his life; Sharon Allen at a dance in 1972, they were married in 1973 and have been together ever since. Leo was an avid sports fan especially for his Boston Teams – Red Sox and Bruins. He could be found at almost every Flames and Seadogs game during the winter and on the 3rd baseline at Memorial Field in the summer. Leo coached in the Lancaster Little League for several years. Leo will be dearly missed by his wife Sharon (Allen) of 46 years, sons; Leo (Arlene), Wayne (Trina) and Jason (Michelle), brother Melvin Leroy (Carol), brother in law Murray Allen (Darlene), grandchildren; Katelyn, Devon, Shawna, Owen, Nathan, and Brent, great grandchildren; Ryder and Hunter, nieces; Tara Baxter, Sharon Baxter, Lori Maker (Jeff), Nikki Allen and Megan Winn (Jarrett), nephews; William Leroy (Dorothy) and Paul Baxter, and special grand-dog Cooper. Leo was predeceased by his parents, stepmother Catherine Lohnes, sister Shirley Wells, brother Vernon “Joe” Leroy, and father in law Cecil Allen and mother in law Doris Allen. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster avenue, Saint John, E2M2L3, 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14th from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. A Memorial Service will follow in Castle “Fallsview” Chapel at 1:30 PM. A Reception will take place afterwards at Castle “Fallsview” Reception Centre. Interment will take place at a later date. Donations in Leo’s memory can be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation, Bobby’s Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences can be made at www.castlefh.com.
