Obituary of Douglas Melvin Rumson
Doug passed on May 10, 2018 on his own terms. But Doug did everything on his own terms...and managed to keep the well being of others as a priority. Like seriously, the man had his plan in place for this unscheduled day and didn’t deviate. He ensured that he went out with as little fuss and fanfare as possible, in the care of the 5AN staff at the SJRH (who he had mad respect for) so that none of his family had to worry about him. Doug is now playing crib with his parents, John & Carrie (Rossitter) and brother Hartsford and may be having some lobster, scalloped potatoes, corn on the cob, finished off with some of his mothers world famous, mile high lemon meringue pie. Which leaves the rest of us here knowing that he’s in a very good place. He will be dearly missed by his children; Michael (Kathy) Rumson of Saint John, Laurie (Rob) Flood of Saint John, Lisa Rumson-Harrity (Jason) of Saint John, brothers; John (Rose) Saint John, David (Max) of Saint John, sister; Joan Lafford, of Albert Co, grandchildren; Rebecca and Rachel Flood, Tyler (Michelle), Jessica (Matt) and Mackenzie Rumson, Emily and Erica Harrity, great granddaughter Kinley Jo- Rumson, several nieces, nephews, best friend Bob Babineau and Lois Rumson. We respectfully honour his time on this planet and will have to find a new host for the Annual Rumson Christmas Eve Party, which he hosted for over a decade. The one he was always ready for. His brothers Jack (Rose) and David (Max) and sister Joan will miss his teasing and sassy quips, his reminders of who was the oldest and who was the youngest (Doug was the almost youngest, which he liked to remind everyone). Their friendship blossomed and grew as did their love and appreciation for each other. Each knew they could rely on the other, as family does. As we all know. The arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634 1701). Visitation will take place on Friday, May 11th from 6PM-8PM and Saturday, May 12th 11AM-1PM. Doug’s service will follow at 1PM in Castle Funeral Home Chapel. There will be a reception following the service at Castle "Fallsview" Reception Center. There will not be lobster, potatoes, corn or pie, but is being catered by some awesome family and friends. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences can be made at www. Castlefh.com
