Obituary of Edward Kenneth Delaney
With sadness, but grateful for a life well lived, the family of Edward “Ted” Kenneth Delaney announce that, surrounded by his family, Dad passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2019. Born January 5, 1929 in Saint John, he was the son of the late John “Jack” and Mabel (Simpson) Delaney and proudly grew up in Milford. Ted was predeceased by his beloved wife Carol Ann (Rogers) Delaney in March 1985, his brothers, Ronald, Leonard, Harry, and Donald; sisters-in-law; Berneata Ritchie, Marney Rogers, Joy Searle, Gertrude Foote; brothers-in-law; Louis Rogers, David Rogers and Gerry Rogers. Ted owned and managed Daniels Insurance Limited for many years until his retirement. He was a long-time Scout Leader at St. Peter’s and was widely known by his scouts as “Mr. D”. He was active in both his parish and his community, holding many leadership positions at St. Peter’s Parish as well as being president of the North End Improvement Corporation. Ted was also very active in the Irish Canadian Cultural Association and enjoyed his many travels throughout the world with this group of friends. What Ted loved most however, was to spend his summers at the family cottage on Kennebecasis Island where he was an avid gardener and tended to his beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of his life and he was proud to share in their various activities and many accomplishments. His determination and resilience served him well through his 90+ years, and his loyalty, charity and quiet example served his family, friends and community well. He is survived by his three children; John (Susan), Colleen Chisholm (Michael) and Brian (Mary) all of Saint John; nine grandchildren; Maryanne (Jeff) Scammell, Catherine (Andrew) Vail, Erin (Borden) Mann, Devon Chisholm, Tom Delaney, Caroline Delaney, Liz Delaney, Michael Delaney and Will Delaney, four great grandchildren; Maria and Monica Scammell, Grace and Theodore Vail. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Dunham, brother in-law Bernard Rogers, sisters-in-law Lucille Rogers and Mary Lou Rogers, as well as many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31st from 2:00PM-8:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, August 1st at 11:00AM at the Holy Redeemer Parish (St. Pius X), 316 Somerset Street, Saint John 506-653-6830 with reception to follow in the Church Hall. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Donations in Ted’s memory can be made to Divine Mercy Catholic School, Bobby’s Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice.
