Obituary of June Ellen Lavin

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of June Ellen (Fitzgerald, Merritt) Lavin, wife of the late Leonard John Lavin, which occurred at the Kennebec Nursing Home on September 19, 2020. She was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on December 4, 1929 and was predeceased by her first husband, Calvin C. Merritt; her parents Gertrude (Tower) and Eugene Fitzgerald; and her brothers, Larry, Gordon, Victor, and Terry Fitzgerald. June cared and gave selflessly to numerous charitable organizations throughout her lifetime. What-ever touched her life and the lives of her loved ones, she gave generously. Some charities near and dear to her heart were the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and Meals on Wheels. As a proud Saint Johner, June also supported the Imperial Theatre and was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. June was an avid reader and bowler, but her true passion was for the game of Bridge for which she was renowned amongst her peers. She was rewarded for this passion by placing first in the Saint John Senior Friendship Games in 2013. June is survived by her seven loving children, to whom she was endlessly devoted: Gloria (Merritt) Barker (Greg) Trudy Merritt (Fraser Crinklaw) Michael Lavin (Heather) Hope Lavin-MacDougall (Grant) Holly Lavin-Rodts (Fil) Mark Lavin (Valerie Pike) and Kelly Lavin.
