Obituary of Laurie Joseph Maillet

We are sad to announce the sudden and peaceful death on October 4th, 2019 of Laurie (Larry) Joseph Maillet, 90 years of age of Saint John, NB, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born May, 17, 1929 in St. Louis de Kent to Augustin and Obeline (Daigle) Maillet. He was one of 11 children. His family moved to Saint John when he was 14 years old. He was a long-time resident of lower West. He started his working career at the Winter Port then worked for Moosehead Breweries until his retirement at “57”. After retirement he kept busy with his home repairs, worked with his brother Alecon, apartment painting and helped his son with his home repairs. In 1956 he married Marguerite Delaney. In 1957 Kevin Michael was born. They spent time with his brother’s families at Saints Rest and Acamac. Also several trips to Portland, Maine to visit Marg’s Aunt Sister Emily Burns. After Marg’s death in 2009, Larry sold their family home and moved to Carleton Kirk Apartments, then Chateau Champlain (had wonderful care from Joan’s Home care) and to Shannex (had some exceptional care givers) in April this year. For the last several years Larry’s pastime was putting together Jig-Saw puzzles. For the last few years Larry has needed some extra assistance from Kevin, Sue and family friend Sandra Quinlan. He is survived by his son Kevin Maillet, daughter in law Sue Ross-Maillet, four brothers; Alecon, Cageton (Theresa), Leonce (Linda) and Lorenzo and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by infant daughter Karen, his wife Marguerite, brothers; Aurelle, Eddie and Rufin, sisters; Rita, Jean and Carmel. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M2L3 506-634-1701. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 8th, 2019 from 11:00AM-1:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 8th, 2019 at 2:00PM. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, with a reception after at Castle "Fallsview" Reception Centre. Donations in Laurie’s memory can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
