Obituary of Kenneth James Steen

It is with great sadness that the family of Kenneth James Steen would like to announce his passing at Rocmaura Nursing Home on Thursday November 21, 2019. Born in Saint John to the late James Kenneth and Bertha Irene (Gray) Steen. Ken was the former owner of Steen’s Barbershop on Main St. West. He was a barber for over 42 years. A long time member of the Lancaster Kiwanis Club, the S.J. Salvage Corp, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69. Ken was a long time coach and mentor for various sporting teams on the Westside. He was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins Fan. Ken is survived by his beloved wife Coleen (Reid) Steen, two sons, James “Jimmy”(Melany) Steen , Mark (Tracey) Steen, two daughters, Janet (Darren) Hewey, all of Saint John, and Shelley (Chris) Edwards, of Grandbay-Westfield, two sisters, Irene James of Saint John, and Ruth Whelpley, of Grandbay- Westfield, Eight grandchildren, Alyssa (Clay) Hitchcock, of Saint John, Nicolas Steen, of Calgary, Kailey Edwards, and Ashley Steen, of Saint John, Dylan Steen of Quebec City, Brittany Steen, Colin Ernst, and Kendra Ernst, all of Saint John, Three great grandchildren, Brayden, Tyler, and Levi, and several nieces and nephews. Ken was pre deceased by his parents, James and Bertha, and also his step mother Jean White (Folkins) Steen, brothers in law, George James, and Doug Whepley. Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, (634 1701) have been entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 4 pm to 8 pm. Graveside prayers will be in Cedar Hill Ext. Cemetery on Monday, November 25th at 11:00 am. A reception will be held at Castle “Fallsview’ Reception Center following the burial.
