Obituary of Antoine Lisik
Dr. Antoine Lisik, passed away on May 6, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital with family at his side. He is survived by his children, Wahkuna (Tony), Bjorn (Melissa), Chantal (Roberto), Zeb (Phuc), Joshua (Carolyn), Antoine Jr. and Sheyla, as well as grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews. Antoine was born on May 9, 1937 in Mahebourg, Mauritius where in his youth he was a table tennis and cycling champion. Antoine studied teaching English as a Second Language at the University of Sydney. He then earned a Fulbright scholarship and moved to New Paltz, New York to study at the State University of New York. After achieving a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts, Antoine moved his family to Saint John, New Brunswick where he worked for many years in the public school system. After spending time at the University of New Brunswick, New Brunswick Community College, and St. Matthew’s University in Grand Cayman, Antoine completed his Doctor of Medicine at the Universidad Central del Este in the Dominican Republic, while learning Spanish along the way. Antoine dedicated his life to education, his continuing education and the education of others. Until very recently he continued to enjoy travelling, learning new languages, exploring new cultures and getting to know people. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634 1701). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9th from 2-4PM. A private family interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations towards scholarships, or a charity of choice.
