Obituary of Anthony Joseph Blanchard
With great sadness the family of Anthony “Tony” Joseph Blanchard announce his passing on July 30, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital while surrounded by loved ones. Tony was born on 1 August, 1948 to the late Elizabeth (nee Blanchard) Gidney in Saint John, NB. Tony was a wonderful man who touched the lives of many, especially those of his family. He was their protector from childhood until the day he died. Tony was very stubborn, but he had a heart of gold. Once he had his mind set, there was no changing it. He loved nature and being outdoors. Tony spent many years fishing and hunting with his brother in-law Nelson, and he finally caught his deer three seasons ago. He was so proud. He also liked spending his time traveling with his wife Betty Jo, going to Las Vegas, Hawaii, Connecticut and many other places. The most important thing in his life was his family, their favourite memories were the time they spent with him. Tony also was a car fanatic. His all-time favourite was the 67’ Ford Fairlane in red with a black striped roof. In recent years, after his retirement from Brinks Security where he spent 27 years, Tony started playing cards- he loved 45’ games and Texas Hold’em Poker games. Tony will be deeply missed by his loving wife Elizabeth “Betty Jo” Blanchard, son Stephen (Michelle) Blanchard, sisters; Theresa (Nelson) Walsh, Mary Ann (Gaylen) Matheson and Rosemary Blanchard, sisters in-law Linda (Rennie) Matheson and Leah Logan, special cousins Mary (Bill) Blagden and Linda (Jean) Robichaud, and many other cousins, numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his very special Aunt and Uncle guardians Donalda and Theodore Cormier, and his mother Elizabeth. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3 506-634-1701. Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 1st from 6:00PM-8:00PM and Friday, August 2nd from 2:00PM-4:00PM and 6:00PM-8:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church on Saturday, August 3rd at 10:00AM. A reception will follow at the Assumption Centre. Private family interment will be held at a later date in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in memory of Tony can be made to the SJRH Oncology Department, SJRH Heart Unit or Our Lady of Assumption Church Building Fund. Online condolences can be made at www.castlefh.com
