Obituary of Betty Rose
It is with broken hearts the family announce the passing of Marion Elizabeth “Betty” Rose on Thursday July 3, 2025, at the Carleton Kirk Nursing Lodge. Born on Partridge Island, Saint John, N.B. in 1931, Betty was the daughter of the late James W. Hargrove and Olive A. (Kingston) Hargrove.
Betty achieved an Applied Arts Certificate at Mount Allison University. She became a gifted Silversmith and taught silversmithing throughout the Maritimes, including Fundy National Park. It was at a silversmithing class where she met her future husband, Walter, a young RCAF fighter pilot, and together they lived and travelled throughout Europe and Canada before settling down in Burlington, Ontario. Finally, Betty moved back to Saint John, joined the Saint John Art Club, and became a Fine Artist specializing in oil painting and watercolour. She also enjoyed many nights jiving with wonderful friends at the Legion 69 Branch.
Betty is survived by two daughters; Dawn P. (Gregg Nickerson) Rose, of Edmonton, Alberta, and S. Elizabeth (Derek Logan) Rose, of Saint John, N.B., one granddaughter; Rebecca (Michael Sampson) Match, and three great grandchildren; Eli, Rose and Charlotte Sampson; of Bathurst, N.B., two nephews; Ian (Joan) Hargrove, of Ottawa, and James (Darlene) Hargrove, of Surrey, and a niece; Charlene Hargrove, of Cornwall.
Betty was predeceased by her parents; James and Olive Hargrove, her husband; Walter L. Rose, two brothers; Clifford K. Hargrove and J. Lloyd Hargrove, and one grandson; Steven Match.
The arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (506 634 1701). As per Betty’s wishes cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Wednesday July 16, 2025, from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 2:00pm at Castle “Fallsview” chapel. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill ext. Cemetery. Donations to the Carleton Kirk Nursing Lodge in Betty’s memory would be appreciated. Online condolences can be made at www. Castlefh.ca.
