Obituary of Marion Winnifred Oram
The family of Marion Winnifred Oram (nee Quilty) announces her passing on May 12, 2025, at Loch Lomond Villa, at the age of 95. Loving family surrounded her as she left this world peacefully.
Marion is survived by her loving husband and golf partner of 70 years, Cyril Oram, her children, Christopher, Daniel (Terry), Martha, Gregory, Maureen O’Hara (Sean), and George (Jennifer), as well as 13 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Marion was predeceased by her son, James Anthony, her brother Francis “Bill” Quilty, sisters Connie Hitchcock, Norma Forbes, Gertrude Quigg and Lynne McCarthy. She was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary Gertrude (nee McFadden) Quilty.
Born on the West Side of Saint John, Marion graduated from St. Vincent’s School and St. Joseph’s School of Nursing. She served as a registered nurse at Saint John General Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Saint John Regional Hospital, Carleton-Kirk Nursing Home, and the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital over the years.
Her chosen career in nursing is but one area where her compassion for others, care and faith shone through. These same qualities led her to work at Castle Fallsview Funeral Home in later years, where she comforted countless others as they experienced their grief over the loss of a loved one.
Always expanding her horizons, Marion also pursued specialized training in psychiatric nursing and served in that field as well.
A creative person by nature, Marion was an avid bridge player and excelled at many other things, including cake decorating, sewing, and oratory. In 1987, she won an International Toastmasters competition in New York City. She took up golf, enjoying rounds with her husband, Cyril, her children and grandchildren, and several fellow golfers at Rockwood Park.
Marion generously shared her time and expertise. She volunteered on several boards and organizations including the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick and Hospice Saint John. These two organizations held a special place in her heart.
Apart from her career and interests, Marion ran a busy household, with seven children of varying ages, with a span of 15 years between the youngest and oldest. She kept them all well fed, well clothed, and most of all, loved unconditionally. She gave the best of herself every day of her life. Her passing has saddened many, but her guidance and love throughout her life have enriched theirs. Marion’s love will be her lasting legacy.
Marion’s family wishes to thank close family friend Lisa Goguen for all her love and support throughout this time, and the staff at Loch Lomond Village, Maple House for ensuring her final years in this life were as comfortable as possible.
Resting at Castle Funeral Home (309 Lancaster Avenue, 506-634-1701), visitation for Marion will be on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
