Obituary of Colleen Dempsey
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jennifer “Colleen” Dempsey in Saint John on Monday May 5, 2025. This feisty, passionate redhead was born in Saint John, NB on July 31,1951 as the daughter of late William and Lola Prince.
Growing up in the south end with her brothers, helped her become the strong, witty, independent woman she was. Her father and brothers meant the world to her. Colleen had many life challenges and curveballs which tested her strength over many years. She was a resilient fighter who stood up for herself and anyone who loved her. Many remember Colleen’s spunk when she worked at the Blue Bird Restaurant and then at Lawton’s where she retired from. Her best life curveball was when she moved to Sussex. This became home. Full of good people, great friends and the best part, the love of her life, Vern. Colleen and Vern were two peas in a pod. Quirky, fun couple always up for a good laugh.
Colleen loved with her whole heart, had fierce loyalty and a great sense of humour. She enjoyed seeing visitors, being able to tell stories, listen to stories and give blunt advice which may involve you being called a dumbass. Bring her a cup of tea or take out food, you made her day. She enjoyed running the roads, reading books, eating out, and spending time with the cats, grand puppies and certainly the grandkids. If you knew Colleen, then you know her daughter Jen. This close mother daughter duo were one in the same.
Colleen leaves behind her daughter Jennifer (Trevor) Murray, stepdaughter Kim (Joe) Veinotte; son Andrew (Kim) Prince, stepson Kris Dempsey; nieces and nephews; and grandchildren who will miss their Nanny. Colleen was predeceased by her husband Vernon Dempsey and her brothers: William “Billy” Prince, Bruce Prince and Pudge Prince. Special thank you to her sister- in-law, Susan McGinnis for always helping and being there for the past couple of years. Special thanks to sister-in-law Jeanne Oram, friends Mary Ellen and Connie McVicar, her neighbours and extended family Art & Ashley Willins. You were loved and very appreciated by Colleen and her family.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle Funeral Home. Private Family Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Celebration of life will take place at Jen & Trevor’s home, May 8, 2025, from 2pm until 4pm. Donations in Colleen’s memory may be made to Paws and Whiskers Sanctuary in Sussex, Elderdog Canada, Carma Cat Rescue Maritimes. Online Condolences can be made at www.castlefh.com
